Bio
Paula Zimbres is a Brazilian bass player, composer and singer. Born and working in the country's capital, Brasilia, Paula has released two solo albums consisting entirely of her own compositions: Água Forte (2012), produced by multiinstrumentalist André Mehmari; and the self-produced Moinho (2017). In addition to working as an electric and acoustic bass player in various jazz and Brazilian instrumental music settings,
recently Paula has been experimenting with singing and songwriting, setting poems to music and interpreting songs by Brazilian masters such as Milton Nascimento, Egberto Gismonti and Gilberto Gil.
During the quarantine of 2020, Paula focused on developing a repertoire that she could perform on her own, with intimate, bass-and-voice arrangements of songs that had a deep, personal meaning for her. The result was the EP "Paula Zimbres Baixo e Voz", released in streaming platforms in May 2021.
Paula holds a Bachelor Degree in Music Composition and a Master's Degree in Musicology, both obtained at the University of Brasília (UnB). She is currently a Doctoral candidate at the University of Campinas (Unicamp), researching the creative process in Brazilian jazz and its relations with issues of identity.
